See the “IV” up there? That’s Roman numerals for 4. The “I” equals one and the “V” equals 5 and in Roman “numbers” that means 5-1=4, Even Though The 1 Is in Front.

This is the next-to-last Little Rock Chronicle, number IV, and I know, I’m ready for it to be over soon. But Little Rock is a nice place to visit and most of you are pretty close so…

It was last week when me and two friends met there because we hadn’t seen each other in a while and because at last one of us had recently re-read “Around the Corner” by Charles Hanson Towne which ends this way:

“Tomorrow,” I say, “I will call on Jim
Just to show that I’m thinking of him.”
But tomorrow comes–and tomorrow goes,
And the distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner!–yet miles away…
“Here’s a telegram sir, Jim died today.”
And that’s what we get, and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

I shot these pictures for Important Historical Purposes and then we headed to Dickey-Stephens Park, home of the Arkansas Travelers of Class AA, and the sad but REAL reason we had come here, on this weekend, on this night…
