I’m happy that Virginia won the NCAA championship Monday night. I like the Cavaliers’ style of play, their coach (Tony Bennett) and how they had a fairly magical run through the tournament. The loss to a No. 16 seed last year was a bit overplayed, but it is a nice storyline.
I’m happy I won’t have to see any more Charles Barkley/Spike Lee/Samuel L. Jackson commercials anymore. They get old very quickly, especially when it seems as though all Jackson and Lee do is unnaturally laugh the whole time.
I’m happy the tournament turned out so well. The first week wasn’t so great, but the last two weekends really lived up to the billing. I’m not as happy about the endless replays to see if a fingernail touched the ball before it went out of bounds. Somebody needs to figure all of this out.
I’m happy I won’t have to hear the word “Madness” for awhile.
I’m happy that, once again, I missed the overly sappy, way-past-its-time closing video that CBS insists on shoving down our throats. It may be called One Shining Moment, but it’s shine has been off this for about 20 years.
I’m happy it is Masters Week, which means that the endless promos will finally slow down. ESPN has literaly been showing these since Christmas — and they don’t have the last two rounds of the tournament. (Self-serving note — once again, Designated Writers will be providing coverage of the Masters, so take that high-brow newspapers hacks!)
(Ed. Note from a DW co-founder: our press badge says The Times and we’ll have stuff in the paper or online this week and different stuff on DW. Newspapers have been very, very good to this DW co-founder. Grateful for all newspaper and DW readers. Break!)
