Let me get this out of the way first, before we move along to less important issues: I didn’t mind New Orleans going for it on fourth down in the final moments Sunday’s game. If you get two yards, the game is over. If you punt, Carolina probably would have been back at midfield in about three plays. Worth the risk.

Now…

I realize I watch too much ESPN. I suppose a man could have bigger faults, but this is certainly one of mine. I abhor politics, I wouldn’t know Dow Jones if he walked in the door and my estrogen level doesn’t justify watching Lifetime Channel. So I’m pretty much stuck with ESPN.

There are many things that bother me about the Worldwide Leader, but I’ll only bring up two today –

1. Masters promos in December? Draft Day promos in January? Are you kidding? First of all, we know when these events are. Zero chance they will come and go and we will say, “I didn’t even know they were on!” Secondly, ESPN, you don’t even have the real Masters coverage – you just have Thursday and Friday. Anybody ever win a golf tournament on a Friday (other than Tiger Woods at the 2000 U.S. Open)? So don’t act like you are the definitive voice for the Masters. Your whole raison d’etre (there’s a DW first!) is to generate fake excitement about who makes the cut. As for the draft, we all know what Mel Kiper’s hair looks like. We don’t need to be reminded for three months.

2. When did this wearing-tennis-shoes-with-a-suit thing catch on? And when can someone put a stop to it? I’m no fashionista, but c’mon. Especially during the endless NFL coverage, it seems like there are more Nikes being worn in the studio than Guccis. So I get a $2,000 suit and slap on a pair of Chuck Taylors? Might as well wear sweatbands and a visor.
