One of the reasons I think we started this website was to discuss things that could best be described as sub-minuate. Such as, why do they spell minuate that way? Why don’t they just spell it “minutia?”

And does anybody really want to use that word in the first place?

But there are these little sayings that are out there — don’t get me started on “it is what it is” — that sometimes we need to stop for a moment and think about what they actually mean rather than just accept them as fact.

The other day, I was in a discussion with a guy and we were having differing opinions on the subject. So he said “we will just have to agree to disagree.”

What if I didn’t agree to disagree? What happens next?  So am I disagreeing to agree to disagree?

If I think I’m right, no way I’m giving in. If I say the sun sets in the West and some moron thinks it sets in the East, I’m not agreeing to anything (other than the fact that I’m right). How about you just agree to agree with me and we’ll be done with it?

The very nature of a disagreement is that there is nothing to agree about. Why would anybody want to inject some form of agreeance into the equation?

Or we can do this instead: Disagree to agree. Change it up for awhile and see if that catches on.
