Somebody — anybody! — please make it stop!

Once again, we’ve got another lawsuit over the horrendous non-pass interference call in the NFC Championship game, which cost the New Orleans Saints a shot at the Super Bowl.

A New Orleans judge (big surprise) has ruled that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and three of refs from that infamous game should answer questions under oath in September.

Nicole Sheppard, an Orleans Parish Civil Court judge, apparently has a light docket and has also ruled that the depositions should be held in New Orleans (another big surprise).

There have been many suits already filed over this matter and I’m not sure whether that is a bigger indictment on Saints fans or the legal system. The rest of the legal proceedings have been thrown out, mercifully.

But this one has been crafted to stay in state court, seeking $75,000 in “damages” that will be used as a donation to former Saint Steve Gleason’s Foundation to help with the fight against ALS. That’s a nice gesture, but nobody is ever going to notice.

A few questions:

** Explain to me again how these actual “damages” are determined? By the amount of smashed TV sets?

** Just exactly what good is this going to serve?

** How long until any fan in any sport of any team decides to also file suit? (Just imagine all the non-traveling calls in the NBA Playoffs!)

** How’s that going to help the overtaxed court system exactly?

It’s been a tough two years for Saints. Along with the Minnesota Miracle, they could have been in the last two Super Bowls. Feel free to complain, whine, even smash a fist through a wall.

But after that? Just stop.
