You know you are responsible for this, right? If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be suffering — and I do mean suffering — through this right now.
I am, of course, talking about the NFL Draft. Message me and we can discuss who the Ravens should take in the fifth round. You like the outside linebacker from Fresno State? No way, dude; they gotta take the kid from Georgia Southern. He’s a beast.
Because of your interest, the powers that be have decided that we must suffer through this constant discussion of who is going where and in what round. Somebody gave Mel Kiper the time of day and the next thing you know, we’ve got Todd McShay to beat us over the head as well. One of them is too many, but two?
Actually, there are many more than that, but they are the two self-appointed headliners. They send McShay to college football games to talk about one thing and one thing only — who the best pro prospects are. As if we aren’t interested in who wins the Florida State-Clemson game and just want to know who are the likely “second-day picks.”
If you really want some entertainment, turn on one of these draft preview shows — I promise, it doesn’t matter which one — and listen to who and what they are talking about. The line of conversation is so self-serving that it borders on absurd. Then again, so does Fantasy Football. Ah-ha! That might explain a few things.
Look, I know they know what they are talking about. No question they’ve done their homework. But the end result is that only a little bit of it matters. Second round picks get cut and undrafted players go on to be starters. It’s the most inexact of sciences that you’ll ever find.
You asked for it and now we can’t get rid of it.
